With UFC 272 getting closer and closer, I had to get in on the action and share some of my best bets. While there is definitely value all across the card, I think most people, including myself, will be very focused on the main event.

Maybe I’m a sucker for a strong narrative, but I’m very excited for this fight. For those that are not familiar, these two guys really don't like each other. While that's obviously not uncommon between two people that are paid to physically destroy each other, this one clearly cuts a bit deeper. These guys have a history together, former training partners turned enemies, and have taken every opportunity possible to discredit and insult each other. It's gonna be a true battle, and I'm excited to see it go down.
Colby Covington is coming into this match with an 11-3 record in the UFC, and is currently the heavy betting favorite at -340. Masvidal, a bit more of a career journeyman, is coming in with a 12-8 record in the UFC, as a +250 underdog. This is a classic example of a fan favorite taking on one of the company's biggest heels.
Both of these fighters are coming into this matchup recently losing to Welterweight Champion, Karmaru Usman, which clearly isn't something to hang your hat on. Covington is the consensus second-best fighter in the Welterweight division, hence the hefty -340 price tag, but Masvidal has clearly shown he can hang with the big dogs.
My best bet for this main event is Colby Covington To Win By Decision at -115. While I really do wanna believe the narrative, and select the fan favorite with nothing to lose and everything to prove, I sadly think he's gonna be outclassed in this matchup. Masvidal's best path to victory is via knockout, so if you were to play the underdog, that's how I’d approach it rather than just the moneyline. I think Covington's athleticism gives him the edge here, he should be able to wear him down over the course of the fight. It's possible he can win by knockout, but Masvidal is a tough opponent and I think we are getting better value via decision.
