UFC 272 Prediction: Rafael dos Anjos vs Renato Moicano Best Bet

Although we have a solid card and absolute slobberknocker main event in Covington vs Masvidal, the co-main consisting of Rafael dos Anjos going up against Renato Moicano is just as enthralling on paper if not conceivably more. The former lightweight champion is looking to stay on the pillar to post stacked cards by taking on the always game Moicano in an unprecedented, five-round non-title match that is almost guaranteed to emit fireworks.

Rafael dos Anjos vs Renato Moicano Prediction

This bout is honestly a divine miracle for even taking place, as it's been canceled not once not twice but three whole times in the span of a week. Dos Anjos initially was geared to fight Rafael Fiziev in the beginning of the calendar schedule, but a positive covid test and lack of overall hygiene led to the first withdrawal, with many other fighters coming up in the replacement conversation only for Dana White to settle on Renato as the backup.

Interestingly enough Mr. Moicano has already fought and lost to Fiziev, that of which he was brutally knocked out in the first round all the way back in December 2020. If there is anything to garner in the somewhat similar opponent matchup, to me at least it's that Moicano does not fare well against shorter stockier strikers, while simultaneously just not having a strong chin to boot.

Even though this is to be at 160 pounds, make no mistake Renato is a predominantly bloated lightweight, and even that's kind of stretch considering most of his career stems from the 145 division and is just now getting into the 155 group due to lack of success in the aforementioned weight allocation.

I will give credit where it's due, “Money” Moicano is a tactician on the mat and has a quite formidable jab, but if you are getting chinned in the featherweight department and quite violently at that, fighting an ex-champion that was competing with the best of them at 170 is probably the worst course of action you can take if you are trying to salvage a career.

That on top of having to fly from Brazil and make weight all over the course of six days as a replacement leads me to believe dos Anjos steamrolls here. He might not be the fresher of the two, but Anjos is still highly dangerous amongst even the top echelon of the sport. His only losses in recent memory have been in a weight class higher than his norm in which all of his opponents have proceeded to become champion, Michael Chiesa aside.

Many other fighters would crumble with such a strength of schedule, but not RDA, the man can be seen only losing competitive decisions to men twice his size and with extinguished wrestling pedigrees. For a change, dos Anjos should have size parity in every measurement category except for height, something that he can use to avoid getting strong-armed in clinch exchanges or bullied in other grappling situations.

Combine all the tangibles alongside the dynamite in his punching combinations and the acclimated five-round training over a short notice stand in is why myself but more important my wallet, is backing the real king of Rio Rafael dos Anjos to get it done this Saturday night.
