Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira meet in the Octagon in the main event of UFC 275 this weekend to decide the undisputed light heavyweight champ. Before that happens though, we have a title fight between Valentina Schevchenko and Taila Santos and ten other fights. Ben Rajavuori Makes his prediction for the first tight of the night below.

Joselyne Edwards vs. Ramona Pascual Prediction

This will be Ramona Pascual's second fight in the UFC after dropping her debut to Josiane Nunes. Nunes is a top prospect in the featherweight division, so it was a tough debut for Pascual. The good thing to take away from that fight was Pascual's ability to get Nunes to the ground. Pascual landed three takedowns in that fight, and it's clear that she is more comfortable grappling than striking.

If this were boxing, Edwards would win nine times out of ten. Edwards is clearly the better striker in this matchup and is a striker by nature. She will also have a four-inch reach advantage. However, there are a few reasons I am fading her as the favorite in this matchup.

Firstly, she is moving up a weight division to 145 pounds, while she's usually fought at 135. Even though she is the taller fighter, Pascual will be stalkier and will be fighting in her usual weight class. Any time a striker is moving up a weight class to fight a grappler, I usually tend to side with the grappler. Pascual should have the strength advantage in this fight, and she will be spamming takedowns given that she is the shorter fighter with the shorter reach.

Secondly, Edward's takedown defense. Edwards has shown issues when facing grappling and has been taken down multiple times in her last two fights and once in all three of her UFC fights. Jessica Rose-Clark took Edwards down in 5 times in 11 attempts. Karol Rosa took Edwards down in 4 of 6 attempts. She also lost both of those fights. Wu Yanan took Edwards down in 1 of 2 attempts, although Edwards was able to win that fight in her debut. Still, Edwards has shown vulnerability to being dragged to the ground. Now, she's moving up a weight class to face someone who will most likely be spamming takedowns for 15 minutes. Doesn't sound like a winning formula to me.

Pascual is the underdog in this fight because Edwards is the more proven fighter and the better striker. I think there is value on Pascual as the underdog in this situation. Pascual has yet to secure her first UFC win, and Saturday seems like an excellent time to do so. Take the underdog in the first fight of the night.
