Curtis Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall Prediction

The main event between the pride of Liverpool Tom Aspinall and Curtis "Razor" Blaydes goes down Saturday night in the O2 Arena. Fresh off the heels of his sublime performance against Alexander Volkov back in March, Thomas the dank engine looks to continue the momentum and then some as he fights the #4 in the world on route to a potential title match down the yearlong stretch.

For the first time in UFC history, Blaydes has opened as the underdog of the bout, a far cry from his usual -400 price tag in previous outings. Another interesting tidbit is that Aspinall is going to be an inch taller, which is just something completely unheard of if you've seen how Blaydes has dwarfed his opponents throughout his octagon run.

Predominantly known for his grappling prowess, Curtis Blaydes averages a whopping 6 takedowns per 15 minutes, quite actually looney tune numbers. Apart from being built differently, Blaydes uses his wrestling pedigree and imposing frame to chain together one entry after another, whether it be on the fence or driving the situation right in the middle of the cage.

Tom Aspinall is a Jack of all trades master of everything, literally exhibiting flawless technique not just in his anti-wrestling but takedown offense and pure explosive striking as well. A unique but necessary match for the heavyweight division. Who will walk out of this contest the victor and frontrunner of the big guy category? Tom has looked utterly remarkable against everyone they've thrown at him, and his latest dub over Volkov impressed me to no end.

Being the main event at home must constitute absolute substantial pressure, but he was able to pass that test with flying colors and then some. Those factors, combined with other glimpses of brilliance, like his complete vivisection of the wrestle-heavy Sergei Spivak, lead me to believe that he rolls in this spot.

The fact of the matter is Curtis Blaydes loses every important fight of his life, absolutely dropping the ball against Ngannou in their second bout as well as getting caught in an integral matchup against Derrick Lewis. I don't trust him to impose his will against Aspinall in London. Perhaps it's too much too soon. Perhaps it will backfire tremendously. But at the end of the day, I'm riding with Aspinall to open a can of whoop-ass over the stuttering sensation.
