Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Michael McKinson Prediction
Ortiz is 18-0, with literally all of his wins coming by way of visceral finish. McKinson is a bodacious British brute, being 22-0 but not having a knockout victory in over eight fights. Matchroom knows what they're doing in a mischievous display of meticulous matchmaking. Obviously they want to put Ortiz Jr over, he is a substantial draw with the Latino/American audience all while putting on sell-out after sell-out in the Texas region as well as in a multitude of other areas.Â
Even though McKinson is a technical jack of all trades master of none, he is at least defensively sound, utilizing a hybrid combination of a philly shell and range finder techniques whenever he seems to be put in a pinch. The jury's out on Vergil, an orthodox stance marauder who aims to strike early and often and absolutely swarm his opponents whenever he smells even the indication of blood. Even though Vergil inside the distance is the side even in this matchup, I believe there is value in trusting the defense of McKinson and betting the over. The fact of the matter is even though he is a decision machine, Michael's best attribute is his tight guard when exchanging in and out of the pocket.
I don't believe he's going to upset Ortiz or win on the cards at all, but I do believe he can remain defensively sound over seven rounds as Vergil tries to dismantle him with flurries. No one thought that the handpicked victim that fought Ryan Garcia would survive even six minutes, but it went the distance regardless because all blud was doing was prioritizing his own safety over actually scoring points.
Give me the over 6.5 as I wholeheartedly think the undefeated fighter in McKinson will not go out early, and instead do everything his power to not faceplant into the canvas.
