Nate Landwehr vs. David Onama Prediction

Onama dropped his UFC debut against Mason Jones but rebounded nicely with back-to-back stoppage wins over Gabriel Benitez and Garrett Armfield. Nate Landwehr also dropped his debut and has been on a win-one lose-one streak over his first four fights in the UFC. Most recently, he submitted Ludovit Klein in the third round. Both men are looking for back-to-back wins, and this fight could be over quickly. The books have David Onama as a modest favorite with a line of -330, with the comeback on Landwehr landing at +260. So who will take this featherweight bout?

David Onama has hype coming into this fight due to his unreal power for a featherweight and his sneaky grappling, which was on full display with his submission win last time out over Armfield. Onama has been a showstopper, as all ten of his wins have been finished. Onama's lone loss in his MMA career came in his debut to a solid wrestler in Mason Jones, but Onama shouldn't be as worried to taken to the mat in this one, as Landwehr is solely a striker with little ground game.

Onama is solid wherever this fight goes because he is so well-rounded. He has excellent fundamentals and is tricky to figure out, as he is a southpaw striker, but he is effective from both stances and will switch when needed. He is naturally athletic and has lots of power behind his jabs, which we saw in his first-round knockout of Gabriel Benitez two fights ago. Benitez was also a fast starter who loves to brawl, just like Landwehr. Landwehr loves to fight in a phone booth and is happy just swinging away with his opponents. This is how his last two losses have come by knockout and how over half of his wins are knockouts. Onama will be more than happy to stand and trade with Landwehr, as this is how he has won basically every fight.

I honestly see Onama having the advantage wherever the fight goes. He has the grappling and wrestling advantage, and he has more power in his hands if they stand and trade. Onama is a -300 favorite here for a reason and given that Landwehr will give him the exact type of fight that he wants, I expect Onama to land a big win here. The matchmakers knew what they were doing making this fight, and I don't see it going more than a round or maybe two.
