Daniel Rodriguez vs. Kevin Holland Prediction

As UFC 279 rears its ugly head come Saturday afternoon, so does one Kevin Holland, as he takes on the formidable LA version of Nate Diaz in Daniel Rodriguez. Holland has galloped through the rankings at middleweight and welterweight over the years to become a blockbuster superstar, predominantly due to his legendary short-notice stretch that made the Pandemic less horrible from his entertainment value. D Rod Rodriguez has had somewhat of an indistinguishable go of it in the UFC as well, rising to similar prominence through taking risky outings against veterans of the sport like Tim Means and Kevin Lee, seeing mostly favorable results and an underground swelling of fanfare to boot for his troubles.

The biggest issue with Daniel as of late has been his insatiable need to get injured, breaking his hand not once not 3 times but twice, leaving him MIA for much of the 2021 season and most of 2022 to add insult to injury. Even though he's not glass cannoning on the sidelines anymore, Rodriguez needs to desperately return to the octagon and string some wins together if he has any hope of contending for the title in the future or really just remaining a fixture in the eyes of the fans.

While a lot is at stake for a multitude of reasons both in and out of the cage, ultimately I'm going to have to side with Kevin Holland using his range and length to stifle D-Rod on the feet, wobbling him immensely on route to the inevitable TKO or club and sub by the 3rd round. The fact of the matter is Dwight Grant almost got him out of there during their contest and Mr. Grant is of a similar build and style, if not giving up a few specifications to Holland in a hypothetical comparison.

I see D-Rod struggling to get on the inside, leading to many openings for Holland to exploit and utilize at will, probably finishing the fight in a similar gruesome matter to when he fought the stockier, compact Joaquin Buckley. When it goes and gets tough, the tough get going, or they call Big Mouth.
