ANALYSIS

Deontay Wilder vs. Robert Helenius Prediction, Pick, Odds: How Long Will This Fight Last?

After what seems like a millennium waiting in the wings after his brutal KO loss to the Gypsy King Tyson Fury, "The Bronze Bomber" himself, Deontay Wilder returns to action this Saturday night, taking on a game if not lesser opponent altogether in the form of "The Nordic Nightmare," Robert Helenius. This fight will no doubt determine the number one contendership amidst the WBC ranks, but only can really emerge here with the golden ticket to a potential title shot down the road, so who will it be?

Deontay Wilder vs. Robert Helenius Prediction

Let's look at some intangibles. Wilder is 36 coming off a life-changing knockout to Tyson Fury we're not only was his perfect record shattered by the Big Dosser but his pride and general ego as well. Before encountering the man who resembles Eggman from Sonic, Fury had absolutely bulldozed any and all challengers, easily possessing a 95%+ knockout ratio and clubbing to death over 40 poor challengers while simultaneously defending his crown a whopping 10 times. The aura of invincibility was very much there and prevalent, leading to some show-stopping performances and a personality larger than life from the man fighting out of Tuscaloosa Alabama.

It all came crashing down, however, as once his series with Tyson Chicken Nuggets came to fruition, the mystique was shattered and the gimmick was ultimately disregarded. Ever since then it has been nonstop excuses coming out of the former reigning defending champion, with Deontay going so far as to even blame his wardrobe and coaches as well as tampering and poisoning by the Gypsy Camp in order to save face. He has since sought psychedelic assistance, doing Aayuska and a multitude of other hippie endeavors in order to gain some semblance of a spiritual awakening, if not to grow as a person at least to check his ego at the door in order to finish on top in the boxing world.

We will see if this pays off as he goes toe to toe with a former sparring partner in one, Robert Helenius. Similar to Tyson Fury, the man they insinuate is a new-age Viking and is also bald and bodacious, unloading in a berzerker fashion whenever he smells blood or is put into a corner himself. Not nearly gifted with the same footwork as Fury, however, Helenius is much more hittable and ploddy in the ring, electing to take one to give one and prioritize punching power over his own safety.

While definitely possessing more strength per shot than Tyson, Robert better mind his Ps and Qs whilst in there with Mr. Wilder at the end of the day however because the chin and tenacity to flourish inside of the squared circle simply are not on the same level as the man The Bronze Bomber has gone over 30 rounds in the ring with up until this point.

While Helenius could very well be at the height of his physical and mental prime, I am still going to go with Wilder and the under to get things done and handle business/cash checks. The fact of the matter is Wilder has starched common opponents they have both faced like Gerald Washington, the only difference being that Helenius was getting starched and Wilder was doing the searching. I simply believe the level of competition is too great of a disparity here, and because of it the "Nordic Nightmare'' is going to go the way of the "Dinosaur."
