Saturday at UFC 264 will mark the third time Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier meet inside the octagon after splitting the first two showdowns.

In McGregor vs. Poirier I in 2014, Poirier met a hungry, driven McGregor trying to fight his way to the top of the UFC and couldn’t withstand the barrage of punches coming his way. McGregor controlled the first 90 seconds of the fight and finally landed a left hook right behind the ear of Poirier, sending him to the mat when McGregor finished the fight.

The two fighters wouldn’t meet again for almost seven years. McGregor rose to worldwide superstar status while Poirier quietly put together a superb career.

Eventually, at UFC 257 in January of 2021, Dustin Poirier got his rematch and made sure to take advantage of his opportunity. He used a combination of front leg kicks to basically render McGregor immobile before finishing him in the second round with his fists.
