UFC 266: Nick Diaz vs Robbie Lawler Picks
In April of 2004, Nick Diaz at age 20 was taking on fellow youngster Robbie Lawler who had just five UFC fights under his belt at the time. Not many knew of Diaz at the time but after that night, they certainly did.
In round two, Diaz knocked out Lawler with a wicked right hand that dropped him face-first to the floor. Just like that, Diaz was a household name.
But that was 17 years ago, a lot has changed since these two met up last. Diaz, who is now 38, hasn’t fought since January of 2015. When Diaz last fought he took on the legendary Anderson Silva but after the contest, he tested positive for marijuana.
He was banned for five years, and while that sentencing ended up being reduced, Diaz is making his first appearance in the ring since that Silva fight. As for Lawler, it’s been just over a year since he’s gotten in the ring.
The past few times that Lawler fought, it hasn’t gone very well. He has four consecutive losses to Rafael dos Anjos, Ben Askren, Colby Covington, and Neil Magny. Now, at close to 40, how much does he have left in the tank?
Both are well past their prime, but this fight isn’t about that. Instead, this is about nostalgia and legacy. So who comes out on top in this Diaz vs Lawler contest?

Nick Diaz vs Robbie Lawler Prediction
When looking at how these two fight, Nick Diaz is an aggressive, high-volume striker. While his boxing skills are solid, don’t sleep on his jiu-jitsu because he’s dangerous in the Octagon with that as well.
With Lawler, he has such a powerful left hand. Of his 28 victories in the UFC, 20 of them have come by the way of knockout. He will beat you by pure force, which is different than Diaz who can do his damage with you on the ground.
The public has been backing Diaz with 68.75 percent of the bets on the underdog in this matchup. Is this smart money or is it just the nostalgia factor taking over for the Diaz backers?
For me, even with Lawler’s recent losses at least he’s been in the ring. Who knows what Diaz looks like after his absence. I think Lawler catches Diaz sleeping with a big left hand and knocks him out.
