This weekend's Friday night college football picks
ANALYSIS

Friday night’s slate of College Football action consists of four total games, but only two of those pique my interest for potential profit.Friday night’s slate of College Football action consists of four total games, but only two of those pique my interest for potential profit.

Marshall Thundering Herd @ #24 Boise State Broncos (-12), ESPN, 9:00 PM:

The only ranked team playing on the schedule Friday night are the Boise State Broncos, who jumped into the Top 25 after a thrilling come-from-behind 36-31 win over the Florida State Seminoles.

Boise State trailed by 12 at the half but responded by shutting out the Seminoles 17-0 in the second half. Freshman quarterback Hank Bachmeier had himself a day completing 30-of-51 passes for 407 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Junior running back Robert Mahone made plays all over the field rushing for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, adding one reception for 27 yards.

Meanwhile, Marshall had an explosive 56-17 win over VMI last week. Sophomore quarterback Isaiah Green showed off his dual threat abilities while lighting up the scoreboard. Green completed 18-of-28 passes for 238 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, adding eight carries for 46 yards.

Freshman wide receiver Corey Gammage also turned some heads catching five passes for 82 yards and one touchdown.

Boise State is my play at (-12) @ +100

The Broncos are laying a lot of points, but I can’t imagine them losing their home opener after starting the season on a high note in Florida.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-19.5) @ Rice Owls, CBSSN, 8:00 PM:

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons pulled out a gritty 38-35 win last weekend over Utah State.

Trailing by four, with under two minutes left, junior quarterback Jamie Newman lead a six-play, 89-yard drive and connected with Kendall Hilton from two yards out for the game-winning touchdown.

Newman was stellar completing 34-of-47 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns. He also made plays with his legs adding 21 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown.

The Demon Deacons had both a running back and receiver total over 100 yards. Senior running back Cade Carney rushed for 105 yards on 25 carries, while Sophomore wide out Sage Surratt caught seven passes for 158 yards and one touchdown.

Rice had a lackluster season opener to say the least, losing to the Army Black Knights 14-7.

The Owls did a decent job at containing the dynamic Army triple option holding the Black Knights to 284 total yards.

Senior running back Nahshon Ellerbe scored the only points for Rice, breaking a 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

The pick is Wake Forest (-19.5) @ -105

Although the line may seem hefty, I actually believe the line benefits any bettors trying to take the Demon Deacons. After seeing what the offense is capable of against Utah State, I’m confident Wake Forest should take this game by at least three scores.
