CFB Picks 10/05: Michigan Wolver-Wins?
College Football fans should be excited for this weekend with Saturday action.
There are three games on tap between top 25 teams in the country.
Check out my predictions for each below:
No. 14 Iowa @ No. 19 Michigan (-3.5), FOX, 12:00 PM ET:
The No. 14 Iowa Hawkeyes are still undefeated four games into their season.
In their latest win against Middle Tennessee, Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns and running back Toren Young had a career-high 131 yards on 11 carries to lead the Hawkeyes to a 48-3 victory.
With the win, Iowa improved to 4-0 for the third time in 10 years.
No. 19 Michigan rebounded last week against Rutgers after it fell to No. 8 Wisconsin.
Wolverines signal caller Shea Patterson had 276 passing yards and accounted for four total touchdowns in a 52-0 victory over the Scarlet Knights.
This game is going to come down to defense. Iowa has allowed only 8.5 points per game through four games, and the Wolverines have allowed 19.3 points per contest.
I expect the winning team to be dominant in the trenches and they will run the ball effectively.
Pick: Michigan (-3.5)
No. 7 Auburn @ No. 10 Florida (+3), CBS, 3:30 PM ET:
Both No. 7 Auburn and No. 10 Florida will enter this SEC showdown with 5-0 records.
Auburn wide receiver Seth Williams came away with eight receptions for 161 yards and two scores and quarterback Bo Nix finished with 335 passing yards and two touchdowns as well as 56 rushing yards and another score for the Tigers in their 56-23 win over Mississippi State.
Florida extended its winning streak to nine games last week.
Quarterback Kyle Trask completed 18 of 20 passes for 180 yards and two scores and added another touchdown on the ground to lead the Gators to a 38-0 shutout over Towson.
Auburn will be giving the Gators 3 points in this matchup. I think Nix and the battle-tested Tigers, who defeated top 25 teams in Texas A&M and Oregon, will be ready for Florida.
Take the Tigers on the road in this contest.
Pick: Auburn (-3)
No. 25 Michigan State @ No. 4 Ohio State (-20), ABC, 7:30 PM ET:
No. 25 Michigan State and No. 4 Ohio State will square off in a Big 10 matchup on Saturday night.
The Spartans are coming off back-to-back wins. They rebounded against Northwestern in a 31-10 win after suffering a devastating 10-7 loss to Arizona State.
Last week against Indiana, Spartans quarterback Brian Lewerke passed for 300 yards and three touchdowns and wide receiver Darrell Stewart Jr. had five receptions for 117 yards and two scores in a 40-31 win.
Ohio State put together an impressive victory over Nebraska last week.
Running back J.K. Dobbins piled up 177 yards on 24 carries, quarterback Justin Fields had 212 passing yards with three touchdowns and the Buckeyes’ defense came away with three interceptions in a dominating 48-7 victory over the Cornhuskers.
The Buckeyes will be giving Michigan State 20 points in this one.
I do think Ohio State will come away with a victory at home, however, I do expect the Spartans to give them a game. Because these Big 10 rivals play against each other every year, I’m pretty sure they know each other well.
I think the Spartans will lose by less than 20. Take Michigan State and the points.
Pick: Michigan State (+20)
