College Football fans should be excited for this Thursday night in college football.
Louisiana will visit Arkansas State in a Sun Belt matchup, and UCLA will take on Stanford in a Pac 12 battle between two historic programs.
Check out my predictions for each game below:
Louisiana @ Arkansas State (+6.5), ESPNU, 7:30 PM ET:
Louisiana is coming off a loss to Appalachian State last week. Quarterback Levi Lewis completed 13 of 24 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown and running back Elijah Mitchell had 68 yards on 13 carries in the 17-7 loss in a rematch of the Sun Belt title game.
Louisiana’s only touchdown came when it tied the game at 7 with eight seconds left in the first half of the game when Lewis found fullback Nick Ralston for a 14-yard touchdown. Louisiana is now 4-2 on the season.
Arkansas State will look to rebound after a loss as well.
Quarterback Layne Hatcher completed 21 of 32 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns, and wide receiver Omar Bayless had eight receptions for 154 yards and three scores for Arkansas State in a 52-38 loss to Georgia State last week.
Arkansas State holds a 3-3 record entering its matchup with Louisiana.
This will be a key Sun Belt Conference matchup because both teams are 1-1 in their division. I believe Arkansas State holds the advantage in this game at home.
Take the Red Wolves plus the points in this one.
Pick: Arkansas State (+6.5)
UCLA @ Stanford (-6.5), ESPN, 9:00 PM ET:
The Bruins have a 1-5 record through six games this season.
In their last game against Oregon State, UCLA quarterback Austin Burton completed 27 of 41 passes for 236 yards and one score, while running back Demetric Felton had 111 yards and 11 carries with one touchdown in a 48-31 loss against the Beavers.
UCLA lost for a 14th time in 18 games with Chip Kelly as its head coach.
Stanford will look to continue to carry momentum into this game after a big win last week.
Running back Cameron Scarlett had 33 carries for a career-high 151 yards and one touchdown, and quarterback Davis Mills completed 21 of 30 passes for 293 yards and one score for Stanford in a 23-13 win over at-the-time No. 15 Washington.
Dating back to 2007, Stanford (3-3) extended its home winning streak to six games against the Huskies. Stanford dominated Washington basically in every offensive category and the Cardinal held an 18-minute edge in time of possession.
Stanford will look to make it three wins in a row in this game. Head coach David Shaw is one of the best coaches in college football, and it’s truly remarkable how he continues to put out a competitive team year-in and year-out because Stanford is such a difficult school to get into academically.
With all of that said, Stanford will continue to stay hot in this home game against UCLA.
Take the Cardinals minus the 6.5 points in this football game.
Pick: Stanford (-6.5)
