CFB Picks 10/31: Pair Of Mountaineers
College Football fans should be excited for this Thursday night in college football.
West Virginia will visit No. 12 Baylor in a Big 12 matchup and Georgia Southern will take on No. 20 Appalachian State in a Sun-Belt Conference battle.
Check out my predictions for each game below:
West Virginia @ No. 12 Baylor (-18.5), ESPN, 8:00 PM ET:
West Virginia and No. 12 Baylor will square off in a Big 12 matchup on Thursday night.
Mountaineers quarterback Austin Kendall completed 15 of 31 passes for 182 passing yards and two touchdowns, and wide receiver T.J. Simmons had six catches for 74 yards and two scores in a 52-14 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners two weeks ago.
West Virginia running back Leddie Brown was limited to 28 yards on 16 attempts in the loss.
No. 12 Baylor, on the other hand, improved to a perfect 7-0 record last week.
Quarterback Charlie Brewer completed 13 of 17 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown and running back JaMycal Hasty had 16 carries for 146 yards and two scores for the Bears in a 45-27 win over
Oklahoma State to extend its school-record winning streak to nine games.
Look for the Mountaineers to give Baylor a competitive game in this Big 12 showdown.
Yes, West Virginia is currently on a three-game losing streak, but the Mountaineers are coming off a bye week and I expect them to bounce back against No. 12 Baylor.
I don’t think the Mountaineers win this game but give me West Virginia and the 18.5 points in this one.
Pick: West Virginia (+18.5)
Georgia Southern @ No. 20 Appalachian State (-15.5), ESPNU, 8:00 PM ET:
Georgia Southern and No. 20 Appalachian State will play in a Sun-Belt Conference game on Thursday.
J. D. King had 19 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns and Wesley Kennedy III had 143 rushing yards with two scores on six carries for Georgia Southern in a 41-7 win over New Mexico State.
It was the third straight win for Georgia Southern.
Appalachian State is still undefeated after seven games this season.
Quarterback Zac Thomas completed 16 of 28 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown and running back Raykwon Anderson had 99 rushing yards on nine carries with one score for Appalachian State in a 30-3 win over South Alabama.
Appalachian State is the first Sun-Belt Conference team to be ranked in consecutive weeks.
When these teams face off, Appalachian State will look to return the favor after a bitter loss last season.
Georgia Southern defeated the Mountaineers a year ago this week. Appalachian State hasn’t lost since that 34-14 beatdown.
I believe the Mountaineers will avenge that loss and come away with the home victory over their rivals.
Take Appalachian State minus the 15.5 points here. There is no doubt that the Mountaineers will cover the spread in this matchup.
Pick: Appalachian State (-15.5)
