CFB Picks 12/27: Texas Bowl
College Football Bowl season is under way!
In the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl, No. 25 Oklahoma State will square off against Texas A&M on ESPN at 6:45 p.m.
- The favorite has covered the spread in each of Oklahoma State’s last four games.
- Texas A&M has a 22-14-2 against the spread record since 2017.
- Since 2017, the Aggies have a 22-1 record as favorites (Stats courtesy of Statschecker).
With that said, Texas A&M is the favorite in this football game.
The Aggies enter this matchup with a 7-5 overall record. Since Mike Sherman took over the team in 2008, Texas A&M hasn’t missed a bowl game, but head coach Jimbo Fisher will lead them to their 41st bowl appearance in program history.
Texas A&M had one of the toughest schedules in all of college football this season. The Aggies played three teams that were either ranked No. 1 at the time or finished the season as the best team in the country (LSU, Clemson and Alabama). They also squared off against five teams ranked in the top 10 and three of those matchups - against Clemson, Georgia and LSU - were on the road.
Quarterback Kellen Mond will lead the Aggies’ offense in this one. He finished with 2,802 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. Running back Isaiah Spiller led the way with 869 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, and wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon had 65 catches for 862 yards and four scores this year.
Oklahoma State will play in its 14th straight bowl game. Under head coach Mike Gundy, the Cowboys have won three straight, and seven out of their last nine bowl games.
Quarterback Spencer Sanders finished with 2,065 passing yards and 16 touchdown passes, but running back Chuba Hubbard was the focal point of the Cowboys’ offense. He had 1,936 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. He is likely playing in his final college game before he declares for the NFL Draft.
The last time these two teams squared off was back in 2011, when both teams were in the Big 12 South.
In that game, Oklahoma State came away with a 30-29 victory over the Aggies. As a matter of fact, the Cowboys have a four-game winning streak against Texas A&M. This game will be the 28th game between the two teams, and Texas A&M has 17 wins and leads the series.
The Aggies will come out with a victory in this one and ultimately win the game by more than a touchdown.
Feel confident taking Texas A&M minus the 6.5 points in this matchup.
