There are many trends in favor of a Nebraska cover this weekend.
Nebraska are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games overall meanwhile, Illinois are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. Illinois are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games played in August.
A lot of people like Illinois in this match-up because only one season ago, Illinois beat Nebraska by 18 points on Nebraska’s turf. Now the Illini are dogs by over a touchdown to this same team at home.
This time around will be different though because of the play of Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez. In the game against Illinois Martinez was on the bench until the end of the game. This absence was significant because, two years ago, Martinez was 22 of 34 for 328 yards, 3 touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Illini. Last year, Luke McCaffrey started for Nebraska throwing zero touchdowns and 3 interceptions against Illinois. When Martinez finally entered the game, he threw a touchdown pass.
Illinois linebackers will have their hands full against Nebraska’s running quarterback Martinez. Nebraska’s offensive success in this game will help the Cornhusker run defense on the opposite side of the ball.
Nebraska’s offense should be successful in this game. It can score quickly with explosive plays and the fightin Illini will struggle to keep pace with the Cornhuskers offense.
For these reasons we’re backing Nebraska on the road as our first leg of our parlay.

Connecticut vs. Fresno State Odds
These two sides have yet to face off in their histories head to head.
There’s not much to like about the UConn Huskies coming into the 2021 season.
Some recent trends backing up our next leg are very telling. Connecticut are 7-13 ATS in their last 20 games. Connecticut are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games played in week 1 and are just 1-9 straight up in their last 10 games overall.
On the other hand Fresno State are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games played in week 1 and are 14-5 SU in their last 19 games at home.
The UConn Huskies were moved from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to Independent status in August 2020. However, the program did not compete due to COVID-19 last season so 2021 will mark their return to Independent status. Back in its last full season, UConn averaged just 18.9 PPG on 344.9 yards of total offense while allowing 40.5 PPG on 467.3 yards of total defense per game in the 2019 season.
Every preseason magazine and credible power rating experts has UConn ranked 128th out of 130 FBS programs this year.
Fresno State’s defense was inconsistent in 2020, ranking third nationally in sack rate, third in passing success rate allowed, and they allowed 20 points per game in wins but 40 per game in losses. This is once again going to be an explosive Fresno State offense that will have them competing for a Mountain-West title in 2021.
Quarterback Jake Haener is the head of this veteran offense that likes to push the ball down the field. He’s got all of his main weapons back in wide-receiver Jalen Cropper and RB Ronnie Rivers.
We are staying away from the full game spread as Fresno State can get out to an early lead here and take their foots off the gas looking ahead to a matchup in Oregon next Saturday. Fresno State’s potent offense and the fact Connecticut hasn’t suited up since 2019 has us taking Fresno State early in this one and covering the first half spread.
