Pittsburgh vs. Wake Forest Prediction

The Pittsburgh Panthers and Wake Forest finished 10-2 on the season and will duel it out in the ACC Championship game at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.

Before the season began, the expectation was that Clemson would win the ACC and defeat teams like North Carolina or Miami. That was far from what happened in the ACC this season.

We’ve now got a battle between two extremely talented quarterbacks. Now the question is whether or not either defense can force multiple stops.

Here are our picks and predictions for the ACC Championship game between the Pittsburgh Panthers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Pittsburgh vs. Wake Forest Prediction

While this isn’t the game that the ACC envisioned at the start of the season, this is one of the best possible outcomes for the ACC Championship game.

The game will feature two quarterbacks that have combined 74 touchdown passes and 14 rushing touchdowns through 12 games each this season.

It doesn’t get better than this offensively. While Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett is the more highly regarded quarterback, Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman will be just as talked about when it’s time to play professional football.

The Panthers are averaging 42.8 points per game with 514.3 yards of offense per game. Pickett and the passing game have averaged 356.7 yards in the air while the defense has given up just 353.1 yards per game.

If there’s anything to rip Pittsburgh’s offense about, it’s the run game as they’re averaging 157.6 yards per game thanks to an average offensive line in the run blocking.

Meanwhile, the defense has been solid this season. There’s no area to really rip this team on the defensive end. The Panthers have handled the run well and have allowed just 92 yards per game on the ground. The pass rush has also been effective this season.

On the other hand, Wake Forest is slightly better offensively than Pittsburgh but lacks a bit on the defensive end.

The Demon Deacons are averaging 483.6 yards per game and have had more reliable receivers this season in the passing game. Wake Forest is averaging 42.9 points per game but is also allowing 29.1 points per game along with 427.1 yards per game.

Defensively, Wake Forest has struggled with stopping the run and hasn’t been great tackling in the open field. However, Pittsburgh’s offensive line might struggle to create holes in the run game against Wake Forest.

Wake Forest has solid coverage and Pittsburgh has a fantastic rushing defense. With the total sitting at 72.5, I have no choice but to take the under. These defenses are allowing just over 50 points per game combined. In an ACC Championship game, you can expect the defenses to be prepared.
