UTEP vs Fresno State Prediction

The UTEP Miners have been hard to figure out. Ultimately, the Miners put together a terrific season, winning seven games and earning a bowl game. But with four losses in their last five games, it’s hard to believe that UTEP stands a chance against Fresno State.

Ultimately, the passing game has been weak for the Miners under Gavin Hardison. He’s thrown for nearly 3,000 yards but has just 17 touchdowns with 12 interceptions on the season. His QBR is currently 56.3 and while he will more than likely progress next year as a sophomore, he hasn’t been playing the best, especially in the second half.

The Miners are averaging 25.2 points per game while allowing 24.8 points per game. The offense can’t reach 400 yards on offense but the defense has allowed just 339.3 yards per game on that end.

There’s no denying that UTEP has playmakers and a solid offensive line but the Miners can only do so much with Hardison at quarterback. He will turn the ball over multiple times in this game.

On the defensive end, the Miners have struggled a bit in the secondary but ultimately have only allowed 204.5 yards per game in the air on the season. The rushing defense has been stellar, despite UTEP allowing 134.8 yards per game. It’s not easy rushing through UTEP’s front seven.

On the other hand, Fresno State’s offensive line really hasn’t done much this season but with Jake Haener at quarterback, the offense still moved the ball, averaging 33.6 points per game and 463.6 yards per game.

He had previously joined the transfer portal but then apologized and withdrew his name from the portal. He’s now practicing with the team and will more than likely start this game.

Of course, that’s big news for the Bulldogs getting back a quarterback of his caliber to run the show against UTEP.

The defense has also been special, allowing just 20.3 points per game. The secondary has held opponents to just 215.3 yards per game. In reality, there are no weak spots for this Fresno State defense. The Bulldogs will more than likely take care of business in the New Mexico Bowl.
