Houston vs. Auburn Prediction

It is the best time of the season as we are back to having bowl games all day long! This bowl game features the Houston Cougars and the Auburn Tigers as they battle things out on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cougars, led by quarterback Clayton Tune, had a very good season, playing to a record of 11-2, including a loss in the American Championship to the playoff-bound Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Tigers' season did not go as planned as they saw themselves end up with a 6-6 record overall that included a heartbreaking loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl. Auburn also saw their star quarterback, Bo Nix, hit the transfer portal as Nix made a move to head west and join the Oregon Ducks.

The Tigers will look to fill the shoes of Nix on Tuesday and perhaps in the offseason. The current spread in this football game sits at -1.5 in favor of the SEC's Auburn Tigers. Auburn has better overall athletes on the field despite the records and is expected to pull off a close win. The total for this game is currently set at 51.5.

In this bowl game, the play I am turning to will be the first half under. These totals have been very good to us all season, and I believe we will land another one here in this game. The first half total is currently sitting at 24.5, and I love this spot for the under.

Auburn showed how good their defense could be this season, especially in the game against powerhouse Alabama. This Tiger defense held them down for four quarters and proved to be a great unit. The matchups up front favor the Tigers heavily as their SEC style of defense will be able to hold down this Houston offense. The Tigers' offense will be forced to operate without Nix. The Tigers struggled to move the football when Nix was injured this season, and I believe that will be the case again in this game.

This is an excellent Houston defense who ranked toward the top in almost every major statistical category in the American, right up there with Cincinnati. This will be a game where Auburn tries to run the football often, and the pace at which the Tigers play will favor this total.

The pace of Houston will also be slowed up in this game, considering Auburn will be one of the toughest defenses they have faced all season. I think Houston will struggle to put points on the board and see a lot of possessions stall, even if they are able to move the ball into the red zone. The lack of the quarterback position combined with the fact that Houston has been a very good defense this season makes this a no-brainer for me. I think we get between fourteen and seventeen points in this half, but this should fly under and be a reasonably sweat-free winner for us to kick off the day.
