Illinois vs. Wyoming Prediction: Can We Count on Joshua Cobbs to Take On a New Role?

I racked my brain all afternoon yesterday thinking about the Illinois versus Wyoming game this Saturday. I thought about it and thought about it, and even dreamed about it when I slept. I took a nap this afternoon and even dreamed about it a little bit during that. Point is, I've been over and over this thing, and at first, I thought I was stumped but it turns out, I was thinking about the wrong markets. I don't want to take a side here and honestly, the total feels pretty right at 44. These books nailed this thing but one area they will never be able to get right is player props. Never.

There are just too many of these guys. I almost feel bad for the books. Almost. They are so outmatched that it only took one time through the lines (one Google search too) for me to find a move that has a 0.0% chance of losing. This thing could be done by the first quarter. Here are my picks, predictions, and odds for Saturday's game between the Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Wyoming Cowboys.

Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Wyoming Cowboys Prediction

We're at DraftKings for this one because I haven't seen player prop lines at any other book. FanDuel was very good about giving us numbers last season so let's hope they don't slack off this time around. I doubt we get any ladders but that would be a nice touch. Taking this kid's 50+ (+160) would be a hell of a way to start the year. You know it, I know it, FanDuel knows it. It's obvious.

Let me tell you a little bit about Joshua Cobbs. Honestly, I just heard of him for the first time today. Legit had to Google his name after seeing it listed at DraftKings to find out which team he was on. Here's the thing though, I'm glad I did because I may have just unearthed the greatest bet of all time. We're talking about a kid who is 6'4" tall and weighs 204 pounds. That's ideal wide receiver numbers people.

Now this kid didn't do much of anything last season. He only caught 25 more balls than I did. But in fairness, he was only a freshman. I bet he did more than you did during your freshman year. You probably didn't catch more than 25 balls. The problem was, he had people in front of him on the depth chart. Not his fault. But now the turntables have turned and of all the receivers on the Wyoming roster, this kid is most likely to make some noise in the receiving game.

Wyoming is likely going to be a slow, plodding run-run-run team this season so that's not great for us most weeks. What's great about this week is the fact that the Cowboys are probably going to get their asses kicked. That means that in the second half, they may be throwing the ball a little more than they want to. They won't have a choice. My guess is Cobbs will slide right into Isaiah Neyor's old role so he'll be the one that benefits the most if a beatdown happens. Neyor jumped ship and went to Texas this season but in six Wyoming losses last season, he went over 37 receiving yards in five of them. It probably rained really hard that day or was super windy. Point is, 37 receiving yards is an incredibly low bar for Cobbs to get over considering the circumstances. This feels right.
