Northwestern Wildcats vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers Prediction
It is finally time! The best sport in the world is back tomorrow, and it feels like Christmas Eve. College football will be back on our TV screens all day tomorrow as the season will kick off in Dublin, Ireland. Northwestern vs. Nebraska will be the battle that we will get into.
This is a Big Ten affair that has some history to it. Nebraska leads the all-time series 9-6 and won their last meeting in 2021. Nebraska football has struggled over the last decade and is looking to get back on the map this season. They feel confident that they can be a team to make some noise out of the Big Ten. Nebraska has not played in a bowl game since 2017, and their last New Years bowl came in 2014 when they defeated Georgia. It has been a long time since the Cornhuskers have found success.
Northwestern is coming off a brutal season, going 3-9. Prior to last season, they went 7-2 in 2020, and it appeared things were turning around for the Wildcats. They have appeared in five bowl games since 2015 and have been a successful team in the Pat Fitzgerald era. They will look to make some noise this year and shock the Big Ten.
The starter for the Cats will be junior Ryan Hilinski. He is a transfer from South Carolina that the team is very excited about. They believe he will be a huge part of the team this season and can carry them to where they want to be. Nebraska will look to Texas transfer Casey Thompson. Nebraska has a lot of faith in Thompson coming into the year.
I will be looking at the under to kick off the season. I love week 0 unders, and this is my favorite of the weekend. Northwestern is going to struggle to score points all season, in my eyes. This is a team that typically does not play with a ton of pace and will use a lot of the clock throughout the course of a game. They know that if they are to pull off the upset this week that they can not do it playing at a fast pace. The last thing they want to do is turn this game into a track meet.
Nebraska will be the better offense, but I have faith that the Wildcat's defense can stop up here this weekend. This is an average defense who should be able to hold their own. I think it will be tough for Nebraska to find a rhythm with a lot of new pieces on their offense. The total here is too high to kick off the season, and I am excited to take advantage. Let’s start the year with a win!
