Alabama vs. Utah State Prediction
Alabama scores a LOT of points. Everyone knows that. People who don’t even watch college football probably know that. So what does that mean for this game, Week 1, versus Utah State?
Utah State’s first game this season in Week 0 was against UConn. Last season, UConn was arguably one of the worst teams out there. Obviously, change can happen between last year and this year, and that change is usually for the better when it’s a team that was already at rock bottom. However, a team like UConn is not going to change that drastically, especially given their low recruiting rank.
Back in Week 0, Utah State gave up 20 points to UConn. 20 points! When you look at UConn’s offensive capabilities last year you can tell their offense was basically nonexistent. I watched a few of their games and it wasn’t fun. Against good teams like Purdue, Fresno State, and Clemson, UConn scored a combined total of 7 points (0, 0, 7). That’s why 20 points is so significant. This shows that Utah State’s defense could be awful this year. However, I am basing that off of one game so don’t quote me on that.

If a team like UConn can score 20 points on Utah State, Alabama’s potential to drop 60 is there. This is assuming Utah State wasn’t just messing around and they don’t end up sharpening their swords on defense for Week 1 versus Alabama. Here’s the thing though, Alabama is already capable of dropping around 50 points against good teams at home. Last season, Alabama dropped 42 against Arkansas, 41 against Georgia, and 52 against Tennessee in Tuscaloosa. Dropping 60 against Utah State shouldn't be too much of a challenge.
Fun Fact: Alabama’s last four games against unranked teams in September all hit the over. I think the over is a solid bet, but personally, I like the team total more, simply because 31 points from Utah State’s offense versus UConn is not an impressive number and Alabama’s defense this season should be even better. The defense alone could potentially score a couple of touchdowns. I want to rely on Alabama and not Utah State to score points.
