Nevada was a very strong team last year behind the arm of star quarterback Carson Strong and elite deep ball receiver Romeo Doubs. Both have exited the program, however, which leaves the wolfpack with a lot of question marks on the offensive end.

Nevada vs Texas State Prediction

Last week in week 0, Shane Illingworth did not play a very solid game at all. He only completed 7/12 passes for 51 total yards. Illingworth is a transfer from Oklahoma State and while I thought he looked pretty good in his time there, he did not impress in his season opener for the wolfpack and will need to play a lot better tonight for them to win. They faced a New Mexico State squad who is just not a good team at all and while the Nevada defense played well, they were actually outgained on offense by the aggies by 46 yards.

New Mexico State really helped Nevada out with turnovers as they turned the ball over five times which was the main difference in the game. Now Nevada has to play a much better and experienced Texas State squad with a very capable quarterback in Layne Hatcher. Hatcher is a transfer from Arkansas State and while he put up very solid numbers there, his numbers would look even better if he didn't share QB duties with now Utah State QB Logan Bonner.

Hatcher has a very strong and accurate arm and has thrown for nearly 7500 yards in his collegiate career with 65 touchdowns compared to just 25 interceptions. The fact that Texas State is now a favorite in this game is also very telling me. They went 4-8 last season and this line has already moved around four points in their direction as well. Nevada should continue to struggle on the offensive end, and I don't think Texas State will turn the ball over five times like New Mexico State did last week. With that being said, I am rolling with Texas State ML for 1.5u as my most Confident College Football Play of the Day.
