UCF vs Louisville Prediction
In Louisville's opening game of the season against Syracuse, they got blasted as they lost by 24 points but when I went through the box score/play-by-play, the game was a lot closer than it looked. Louisville was able to put up 334 total yards including a balanced attack with 197 passing yards and 137 rushing yards as they averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Louisville was plagued by 3 very costly turnovers on their own end of the field and a long drive that was halted by a 4th down turnover on downs at the goal line.
In UCF's season opener, they looked very solid behind Ole Miss transfer, John Rhys-Plumlee, but it came against a very weak opponent in South Carolina State squad so it's truly hard to judge them at this point. UCF is usually a very high-powered offense and they put up 600 total yards of offense in their season opener so it will be interesting to see how they fare against a much better opponent tonight in Louisville.
Last season, Louisville pulled an upset against UCF as 7-point home underdogs and now they are even less of a dog at 6/6.5 points while on the road in this matchup. Typically, this line would adjust to around -9.5/10 based on last year's split, so it is a bit peculiar that tonight's line is even lower than last year's. The public perception behind Louisville right now is also not very good at all. They looked terrible in week 1 and now have to go on the road to face a much better team in UCF.
I believe Malik Cunningham will have a much better game tonight as he is a very talented player who can get it done for the Louisville offense through the air or on the ground. Cunningham's ability to scramble and create plays with his legs is huge and Louisville should be able to move the ball and finish drives better than they did last week. With that being said, I am rolling with LOUISVILLE +6.5 at -115 for 1U as I think the Cardinals can keep this game close or even win outright.
