Miami vs Texas A&M Prediction, Pick, and Odds: Can Tyler Van Dyke and Miami Build Off Successful Start?
Jimbo Fisher once again finds himself in the crosshairs of fan and public scrutiny following a 17-14 loss to Appalachian State last weekend. Aggies quarterback, Haynes King, went 13 of 20 for 97 yards and zero touchdowns against the Mountaineers. Even their running game was shuttered by an FBS defense, carrying 18 times for 83 yards and a touchdown. A 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the only other scoring the Aggies were capable of producing with a slew of four and five-star talent.
As bad as it looks, this might've been a game where the Aggies underestimated their opponent. King threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns against an equal-caliber opponent, Sam Houston State, to open their season with a 31-0 win. Texas A&M's defense is the primary concern here. It has surrendered over 100 rushing yards to a pair of non-power 5 opponents to start the year, applying pressure on the offense to perform well.
Miami sophomore quarterback Tyler Van Dyke appears to be a legitimate prospect, however, we'll see what he can manage against the Aggies during a prime-time road game in College Station. Neither team has played tough opponents based on roster talent and coaching prowess. There's a lot for both teams to prove but A&M holds the edge due to their recent loss. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Saturday's game between Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas A&M Aggies.

MIAMI VS. TEXAS A&M PREDICTION
Mario Cristobal left Oregon after massive success in reviving a storied program. Now, he appears to be doing the same in South Beach at the University of Miami. It's a run-centric scheme that has attempted over 40 carries in each of its first two games, resulting in lopsided victories. That doesn't mean Van Dyke is not a quality passer. He's thrown only one interception and has 12 incompletions, along with 549 yards and three touchdowns.
The Hurricanes' strength is the Aggies' weakness. Texas A&M was dominated at the line of scrimmage by an FBS opponent last weekend, surrendering 52 carries for 181 rushing yards and a touchdown. The time of possession was one-sided and the inability to get off the field, combined with King's inability to find an open receiver further than ten yards downfield, forced the Aggies to rely on big plays.
Kickoff returns are a rarity. Fisher and King will need to find a way to unlock the passing game under the lights at home. Cristobal is just as talented, if not more, than Fisher when it comes to calling plays and being referred to as a quarterback "guru." However, it's Cristobal's background as a player in the trenches that allows for the U to scheme up successful playcalling. Teams that win the line of scrimmage often end up winning. Both of Miami's opponents have averaged 3.2 YPC or worse. I like the 'Canes to win outright in a prime-time showdown due to the momentum and energy Cristobal brings to their program.
