Wyoming vs Air Force Prediction

Air Force has looked very impressive to start the 2022 season as they are 2-0 with two blowout victories over Northern Iowa and Colorado. Northern Iowa is an FCS team, but they are typically a very solid FCS squad and Air Force ran all over them like nothing. In their second game against Colorado, they got off to a bit of a sluggish start in the first half before eventually taking control of the game and winning by 30+.

The Air Force triple option attack has been firing on all cylinders to start the season, but they have played two extremely below-average teams. Colorado is a dumpster fire and might be one of the worst Power 5 teams in the FBS this season. I mentioned earlier how Northern Iowa is typically a solid FCS squad, but it is looking more like it will be a down year for them after their 0-2 start and their complete ineptitude on the defensive side of the ball. Wyoming is not necessarily an offensive juggernaut, but they have looked much better over the last two weeks including a huge offensive game against Tulsa where they scored 40 points, put up 400 yards of offense on a solid Tulsa defense, and won outright as nearly 7-point underdogs.

While Air Force has played extremely well, they have been somewhat susceptible to the run on defense, which is a bit ironic considering they run the triple option. They allowed 119 yards on five per carry to Northern Iowa and allowed 111 yards on four per carry to Colorado, and neither one of those teams have particularly dominant running backs. Wyoming has been a bit anemic on offense to this point, but their biggest strength has been the ability of Titus Swen to run the ball. Swen has totaled 214 yards through three games on five yards per carry including three touchdowns.

Wyoming should make a concerted effort to feed Swen the ball given the fact that quarterback Andrew Peasley has not been stellar to this point, and Swen should be effective enough to move the sticks and keep the clock rolling for this Wyoming offense. This will be a possession-to-possession type game.

On one side, you have Air Force who runs the triple option and is typically very deliberate with their drives with only the occasional pass to stop the clock. Then you have Wyoming whose only strength to his point has been running the ball and is very limited in the deep passing game.

I believe the Wyoming defense will buck up at home here and should be able to stop the triple option to some extent and Swen should be effective enough to move the chains to sustain drives. The Wyoming offense has been much improved since their week 0 blowout loss to Illinois, and I expect this game to be much closer than others might think. With that being said, I am rolling with WYOMING +17 at -120 for 1U as I think the Cowboys can keep this game somewhat close.

Wyoming vs Air Force Pick

WYOMING +17 at -120 for 1U (Bet $120 to win $100)
