Penn vs. Dartmouth Prediction
Dartmouth is a team who is usually very solid in Ivy League play and should have another solid team this season but have not shown it to this point. In their opening game of the season, they defeated a weak Valparaiso team and were not even close to covering the spread at any point during that game.
Dartmouth is a team who relies on running the football as they are basically a triple option team who throws the ball slightly more than some of the other service academies who also run the triple option. In Dartmouth's next game against Sacred Heart, they again found themselves as heavy favorites and at one point were up 21-3 before the wheels started to fall off.
Dartmouth allowed Sacred Heart, a team who had only scored 23 points on the season through three games, to score 38 points on them and would eventually lose 38-31 in overtime to the Pioneers. This game was a real eye-opener in my opinion about this Dartmouth team. To have the foot on the gas so early against such a bad team and then to give up that many yards to a SHU squad who hadn't done anything offensively at all on the season, was just a huge letdown and maybe an indicator that Dartmouth is potentially not as strong as they usually are.
Now Dartmouth gets to return home and has a big game tonight against a Penn squad who comes into this game undefeated at 2-0. Penn has not played that tough of a schedule but on paper, they were less of a favorite in their opening 2 games than Dartmouth was so in a sense, they have had a harder schedule than the Big Green. Penn has notched wins over Lafayette and Colgate by the scores of 25-14 and 12-0 so they have really played well on defense to this point. And though it has only been 2 games, Penn is currently ranked number 1 in the nation in the FCS in rushing yards allowed per game (22), opponent rushing TDs (0), and opponent rushing yards per carry (0.81). Now Dartmouth is a way more talented team than Colgate or Lafayette but these numbers from the Penn defense with regards to stopping the run cannot be ignored. With that being said, I am rolling with the PENN QUAKERS +14.5 at -110 for 1.5u tonight as I think Penn can keep this game within 2 touchdowns against Dartmouth's inconsistent defense.
