UCF vs. SMU PREDICTION

UCF is a group 5 team who has emerged in the last 5-7 years as a perennial contender, but this has been a bit of a down year for them. Yes, they come into this game with a 3-1 record but let's take a look at who they have played. Their first game came against South Carolina State who is a very bad FCS team, then they suffered a tough loss to Louisville in a game they were outscored 13-0 in the second half. UCF were six-point favorites in that game and really struggled to move the ball in the second half.

UCF has shown the ability to run the ball but has issues in the passing game. In their last game against Georgia Tech, they really should have lost as they got outgained by 120 total yards and did not play that well. UCF was helped out by Georgia Tech going 0-4 on fourth downs and missing two field goals. I do not anticipate a solid SMU team making the same mistakes as Georgia Tech did.

SMU comes into this game with a record of 2-2 but has played a much tougher schedule. The Mustangs played Maryland extremely tough on the road and then were exposed defensively against TCU. SMU has a very experienced quarterback in Tanner Mordecai who is averaging just under 350 passing yards per game this season.

Mordecai will be the best QB UCF has seen so far and in UCF's previous games they allowed Jeff Sims (GT) to throw for 300+ yards at a 66% completion% and have not forced an interception against the three FBS opponents they have faced this season. I know SMU has faced some issues within their program that has come out lately about some players sitting out to preserve their future eligibility, but I do think they are the more talented team and should be able to move the ball on UCF.

With that being said, I am rolling with SMU +3 at -115 for 1U as my most confident College Football Play of the Day.
