Rutgers vs. Nebraska Prediction

Nebraska comes into this game with a 2-3 record, but they are coming off of one of their best performances of the season as they defeated Indiana 35-21. That game was tied down the stretch as they broke the tie in the 4th quarter and controlled the game from that point forward. This has not been Nebraska's M.O. in the past few seasons. They are a team who has really struggled in the second half of games so that 4th quarter win over Indiana last week is huge for the psyche of this team and may help pole-vault them in a more positive trajectory for the second half of the season.

Nebraska will take on a Rutgers squad who started off the season red hot as they were 3-0 including an impressive road win over Boston College as 9-point underdogs. However, with each passing week that win is looking less and less impressive as Boston College has proved to not be a very formidable opponent. Rutgers has been starting to show their truer colors over the last three weeks as well. Rutgers barely defeated a Temple squad which is dreadful. Then lost by 17 at home to Iowa while allowing multiple defensive touchdowns, and then got destroyed by Ohio State by 39 points.

Rutgers has really struggled to move the ball offensively and has had a revolving door at the quarterback position. Nebraska has played a much tougher schedule to this point and overall, and has passed the eye test for me a little bit more than this Rutgers squad has. Nebraska is a program with a rich history, but they simply have not been at that level over the last few seasons, they are still at a higher talent level than Rutgers in my opinion.

I mention the line dynamic on home versus road teams a lot too and I love backing road favorites as we tend to get a lot of value on road teams in this spot simply due to home-field advantage being baked into the lines. With that being said, I am rolling with NEBRASKA ML at -140 tonight for 1U as I think they go into Rutgers and escape with a close win.
