The Bearcats of Cincinnati have once again found themselves ranked and on the road for a potential big bowl game, albeit not the College Football Playoff, like last season. The Bearcats narrowly lost their opening game of the season against then-top-15 ranked Arkansas, 31-24. Since their loss to the Razorbacks, Cincy has rattled off five-straight wins and only had one close game in those five victories, this past weekend against South Florida, after starting QB Ben Bryant went down with an injury and third-year backup Evan Prater was thrust into the fire late in the game. No official word on if Bryant will be able to return for this weekend's showdown with SMU, which is surely why the line is where it currently is for this one (Cincinnati -3).

Meanwhile, the Southern Methodist University Mustangs have had quite the up-and-down season. SMU started out on fire with a pair of 48-10 and 45-16 wins to start their 2022 campaign. However, since their 2-0 start, the Mustangs lost three straight against Maryland, TCU, and Central Florida but the team got back on track with a conference win when they held off Navy 40-34, this past weekend.

This one seems a little too easy...that it may not be. However, all we can go by is the numbers and they tell us that there isn't much of a reason that SMU should be only 3-point underdogs, this weekend, despite being at home and possibly facing a backup QB. Regardless of who's under center for the Bearcats, they should have not much of a problem dispatching the Mustangs, who have struggled mightily both in and out of conference play.
