Western Kentucky Hosts UAB in a Conference USA showdown tonight and while their records may not indicate it, these two teams are two of the best in the conference. Let's break it down to see where the edge is for tonight.
ANALYSIS

Western Kentucky vs. UAB Prediction, Pick Against the Spread, and Latest Odds

UAB is a team who has been hard to gauge this season. They were selected as one of the favorites to win the conference and while that goal is still attainable, they have not looked like the dominant force they were supposed to be coming into the season. UAB comes into this matchup with a record of 4-2 but has had its most struggles on the road this season. UAB is 0-2 SU on the road this season and were -6- and -10-point favorites in each of those games.

Western Kentucky vs. UAB Prediction

UAB was plagued by extremely bad second halves in both of those matchups, and I have to attribute that to just a lack of focus against inferior opponents which is surprising given how experienced this team is. UAB has an old-school style as they have an elite defense and love to run the ball behind star running back, Dewayne McBride who is averaging over 156 yards per game this season. Western Kentucky is not exactly known for having an elite defense but they have been solid against the run this season as they have only allowed one 100-yard rusher this season so McBride will have his work cut out for him against a stingy Hilltopper defense.

The real disparity in this game is going to be at the quarterback position. Western Kentucky has one of the best group of 5 quarterbacks in the nation with D2 transfer Austin Reed who has been phenomenal this season.

Reed is averaging 331 yards per game and has thrown for 21 touchdowns to only 5 interceptions, so he has done a great job of taking care of the ball for the most part. He has also eclipsed 40 rushing yards in 3 games this season, so he is capable of making plays with his legs when the pocket breaks down.

UAB had a lot of trouble containing Liberty's mobile quarterback and that may be another issue for UAB tonight if they cannot keep Reed in the pocket. Dylan Hopkins is the QB for UAB and while he is solid, he has not been tasked with too much this season as most of the load for the UAB offense is placed on McBride and their running game.

Hopkins has only totaled more than 230 yards in 1 game this season and I am not sure he is capable of moving the ball down the field if their running game is not firing on all cylinders.

This will be a very tough environment for UAB, and I do not expect their offense to be as crisp as it has looked in the past. With that being said, I am rolling with WESTERN KENTUCKY ML at -119 for 1U as I think they grab a much-needed home win here to stay in the hunt for a Conference USA championship.
