NC State came into this season with a ton of expectations and this year has simply not panned out the way they had hoped. It started with a near loss to ECU in a game they really did not deserve to win and while they come into this game with a record of 5-2 and a ranking of 24th in the nation, they are not as good as they may appear. Let's break it down with our prediction, picks, and odds.

NC State vs. Virginia Tech Prediction

A lot of the hype behind NC State was because of their all-ACC performing quarterback, Devin Leary, who is now out with a season-ending injury. Even while he was playing, Leary was not moving the ball as well as anticipated and had his own struggles as he only threw for 121 yards against Texas Tech and did not have a single game this season over 245 yards against power 5 opponents.

With Leary now out, there are a lot of question marks surrounding the Wolf Pack offense that were not answered last week against Syracuse. Syracuse does have a solid defense but NC state was only able to score 9 points against the Orange and only managed to put up 255 total yards of offense. They also allowed 4 sacks and did not generate 1 on defense so they lost the battle at the line of scrimmage as well. Their opponent tonight will be the Virginia Tech Hokies who have also had a disappointing season but I believe they are better than their record indicates and may be a bit undervalued in this spot.

VT is 2-5 on the season with their only wins coming against FCS Wofford and Boston College, two very bad teams. But VT has been playing much better over the past 2 weeks as they held their own against PITT and Miami. VT has struggled to move the ball and their defense has been inconsistent but they have done a solid job of keeping games close in the 1H to this point.

NC state simply does not have the firepower to blow anyone out at this point without Leary and considering how well VT has played in the opening half of games this season, I think they can stay in this ine for the opening 30 minutes at least. With that being said, I am rolling with VIRGINIA TECH 1H +7 at -105 for 1U as one of my most confident College Football plays of the day.
