Ball State is a team who has been in a lot of close games this season. In Ball State’s last 4 games, each has been decided by a touchdown or less. They seem to play to their competition’s level whether it be playing down to UConn In a slim 25-21 victory or playing up to Northern Illinois as they beat them 44-38 as four-point underdogs. Ball State has also played very well in MAC play, especially in the 1H as the underdogs.
Ball State has now been an underdog three times in MAC play. The first was against WMU at home as 6.5/7 point dogs and they led at the half 16-14 before blowing the game late and failing to cover. The second came against NIU where they flopped in the 1H as short dogs before coming back in the 2H to mount a ferocious comeback. The third was on the road against CMU as 7/7.5 point favorites and they were down at the half 10-7 (covered) and would eventually win SU by a score of 17-16.
Ball State has held true to this pattern of starting strong as bigger dogs and folding late and starting slow as short dogs and then coming back in the fourth quarter. Tonight Ball State finds themselves as a 7/7.5-point dog against Kent State whose defense has been very susceptible this season.
I do think Ball State gets off to a good start in this game and should keep things close in the 1H. With that being said, I am rolling with BALL STATE 1H +4 -102 for 1U as one of my most confident College Football Plays of the Day.
