UConn vs. UMass Prediction

UConn comes into Friday night's college football game with a record of 4-5, including wins over Boston College, Fresno State, and Florida International. UConn has also played a very tough schedule as they went into the big house, got blown out by Michigan, and took on Syracuse at the beginning of the season. They also traveled to NC State and held their own quite well, so Kahn’s record of four and five already looks impressive and does not consider their games against top-ranked teams in which they had no chance of winning.

In this matchup tonight, UConn find themselves in a situation they are not accustomed to. UConn is favored by 15.5 points tonight, which is the most points they have been favored by in a game against an FBS opponent in quite some time. UConn has been dreadful over the last few seasons, as they frequently find themselves as double-digit underdogs against much better teams. While UConn is much improved, They are simply not used to performing in situations like these when they are expected to win and perform at a high level.

Their opponent, UMass, has not improved to the level that UConn has, but they have shown some slight improvement. UMass comes into this game with a record of 1-7, but they have also played a very tough schedule, including games against Tulane, Toledo, Buffalo, and Liberty. While UMass has struggled to score points this season, their defense has markedly improved. While UMass is 1-7 SU on the season, they are 5-2-1 ATS in the 1H this year. This tells me that UMass starts games very strong and simply does not have the talent or discipline to finish games.

UConn has been playing exceptionally well over the past few weeks as they have gone 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS, but I expect them to regress a bit tonight. UMass has played very well in the 1H of games this season, and I do think this line is a bit inflated due to UConn’s recent successes. That said, I am rolling with UMASS 1H +9 at -110 (SuperBook) as one of my most confident College Football plays of the day. +7.5/8 is good as well.
