There is a lot of history between these two programs dating back to their first meeting in 1910. Iowa won the first-ever meeting 16-0 one hundred and two years ago. I wonder if Iowa played the same brand of football then?
As time has gone on, Purdue has had the upper hand in the series. The Boilermakers lead the all-time series 50-39-3, and they have won the last few times these teams clashed. Purdue has been very good at home all-time against the Hawkeyes, going 29-17-1.
Iowa has had the better record in Iowa City. These are typically close and hard-fought football games. This year has been up and down for both of these teams. Neither will win a big ten total, but both will have a chance to be bowl-eligible yet again this season. Iowa comes into play with a record of 4-4, while Purdue represents a 5-3 overall record. Iowa has really struggled the score the football this season.
If you have watched Iowa before, you know their style of play. They like to run the ball and try and control field position. Purdue, on the flip side, has more of a modern-day approach, and they like to spread things out and throw the football on offense. It will be interesting to see how the system works today.
I am all over Purdue here at home. I think that this is a great spot for the Boilermakers coming off a loss to Wisconsin. Purdue got a bye week last weekend, which is key to resetting and coming back strong here at home today. Iowa simply does not scare me at all from an offensive standpoint.
I do not think that they can keep up with the pace Purdue plays with, and if they fall into a negative game script, they are done. This is not a team that is built to go down early and throw the football. I will trust the Boilermakers today!
