Bowling Green vs. Kent State Prediction

Kent State comes into this matchup with Bowling Green with a record of 3-6 and a MAC record of just 2-3. Many thought Kent State had an opportunity to contend for the MAC championship this season, but that has not been the case to this point. Kent State still has some very solid and explosive players, including Running Back Marquez Cooper and starting QB Collin Schlee. Cooper is one of the best running backs in the MAC and really should get more national notoriety for his talents. Cooper is averaging 113 rushing yards per game on 4.7 yards per carry and has a career average of 4.9 per carry on just under 500 total carries. He will have an excellent matchup against a weak Bowling Green run defense tonight.

Bowling Green is ranked 85th in the nation in total rushing yards allowed per game, as their opponents have tallied 162 rushing yards per contest against them. Bowling Green is also ranked 99th in the country in yards allowed per rush, as opponents are gaining 4.5 yards per carry against them through 9 games. Bowling Green has allowed at least 98+ rushing yards to every opponent this season except for Mississippi State, who runs the air raid passing offense and barely runs. I fully expect Cooper to have a field day against this BG defense, and Kent State should be able to move the chains continuously.

Even if Cooper isn’t being effective on the ground, I have confidence that Schlee can make plays with his arm or his legs. Bowling Green is ranked 90th in passing yards allowed per game and, more importantly, ranked 110th in average passer rating allowed per game, so their defense has really struggled in all facets.

I think this line being so short is an overreaction to Bowling Green’s recent play, as they have gone 3-0 in their L3 and 4-1 in their last five. Kent State has also struggled recently as they are just 1-3 in their last four games, but they have played a demanding schedule and actually played some power 5 opponents very tough.

Kent State being a -2 road favorite with a record of 3-6 is also a considerable line indicator to back them, considering their opponent has a much better record at 5-4 and is on their own home turf. With that being said, I am rolling with KENT STATE 1H ML at -125 and KENT STATE Full Game ML at -122 for 1U each as some of my most confident College Football Plays of the Day.
