Early Lean For NFL Season Opener: Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
The NFL are mixing things up, by giving us their oldest rivalry to open their 100th season! And although it’s early, it certainly doesn’t mean that we don’t already have a lean for the game we’re all waiting for!
Week 1: Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears
Soldier Field, Thursday September 5th, 8:20pm ET (NBC)
The Packers have had some questions placed on them following a lacklustre year last time out. Now Rodgers and co will seek to bounce back under new HC Matt LaFleur. It’s difficult to speculate exactly how the Packers will look following Mike McCarthy’s lengthy tenure as head coach, but with the entirety of the off-season to prepare, it’s likely the Packers will be primed and ready for their opener against the Bears.
Chicago had an outstanding and fairly surprising year in the 2018-19 season under Matt Nagy. He came in and rejuvenated the long-time slumping team to give them a new-look offence and solid defence. Mitch Trubisky had what could be called a ‘breakout year’ after leading the Bears to a 12-4 record, in large part due to his versatile play at QB.
I expect the Bears to experience some regression this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if that kicked-off straight from this clash against their bitter rivals on the opening day. Rodgers will be desperate to start on a high and the team will be giving it their all to set the tone for how they wish to continue this year. It’s still early doors, but I’m not against taking the Packers early here, as I think some good pre-season displays might see this line narrow significantly.
Early Pick: GB Packers +3.5 @-107
