Anytime the NFL puts these two teams together on prime time it invokes some great memories, and some wonder buttfumble gifs. On a serious note the Patriots are heading into New York on 11 days rest to face a Jets team who made a statement win last week against a sloppy Cowboys teams. Can the Jets cause a monster upset or will the Patriots roll to 7-0?
New England Patriots @ New York Jets
MetLife Stadium, 8:15pm ET Monday October 21st, 2019
1u – New England Patriots -9.5 @ -105
- Per Statschecker, the New England Patriots are 4-2 ATS this season
- My yards per play metric has the New England Patriots as 14-point favorites in this one
As I said last Thursday, I am going to just back the Patriots against the spread until they prove me wrong. The Jets did us a huge favor with their upset of the Cowboys last week as it brought the spread under 10 and made this a play. The Patriots have a crushing defense, which shut out the Jets offense, albeit under Luke Falk, the last time these two teams met. Sam Darnold does give this offense a boost, but I do not expect him to be any match for this Patriots team, which should roll to a 10-14-point victory Monday.
1u – New England Patriots Over 26.5 Points @ -113
- The Patriots have scored over 30 points in five of their six games
- The Jets have allowed 22 or more points in all of their last four, and over 30 twice this season
These two picks go hand in hand really. To win by 10-14 points the Patriots are likely going to need to score close to 30 points. Against a Jets defense that has been embarrassing for large parts of the season, three touchdowns and a couple of field goals or four touchdowns should be more than possible. That is without taking into account a Patriots defense and special teams which have been as effective as some offenses around the league this season.
