The NFL‘s latest edition of Thursday Night Football brings us a fascinating matchup between two very different 6-6 teams. The Cowboys roared out of the blocks but have crashed back to earth lately, while the Bears have meandered their way to 6-6, winning three of their last four. Now they face off, with both of them fighting for their playoff lives.
Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears
Soldier Field, 8:20pm ET Thursday December 5th, 2019
1u – Dallas Cowboys -2.5 @ -123
- Per Statschecker, the Chicago Bears are 3-9 ATS this season
- Per Statschecker, the Dallas Cowboys are 4-2 ATS on the road this season
This was a really tough game to judge but, in the end, I just decided to go with the more talented team. Yes, the Cowboys got embarrassed at home on Thanksgiving, but the Bears were hardly impressive either, nearly falling to the woeful Detroit Lions with their third-string QB at the helm. The Cowboys should have the offensive line to handle the Bears pass rush, and their defensive should be able to keep the ugly Bears offense under wrap. All the metrics tell you to ignore the fact these two teams are both 6-6, the Cowboys are simply the more talented team, with a net-YPP poiny value 8.5 points above the Bears.
1u – Under 42.5 Total Points @ -102
- Per Statschecker, the under is 8-4 in Chicago Bears games this season
- The Cowboys have scored just 24 points combined in their last two games
Ok, so the second stat above does not reinforce the top pick. However, while the Cowboys offense will likely struggle in this game, so will the Bears. The Bears have averaged just 21 points in three games against the woeful Giants and Lions (twice). The Cowboys defense is not great, but it is better than both of those. I do not see the Bears getting to 20 here and I think the Cowboys might also be short of that. This game has a 17-13 or 20-16 type feel about it to me.
