ANALYSIS

Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots Predictions

  • The Broncos have covered the spread in 6 of their last 8 games

The Denver Broncos catfished us all this season. After the draft and the FA signing of Melvin Gordon we'd begun to think that they could be dark horses. Drew Lock entering year 2, a recieving corp of Courtland Sutton, rookies Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, tightend Noah Fant and an exciting 1-2 punch at running back. All of that alongside a tough defense. Then injuries happened, Von Miller was ruled out for the season, Courtland Sutton followed shortly after in addition to other injuries to Lock, Lindsay and Fant. This Denver Broncos team is not what we thought they'd be.

Slowly though they're starting to get their players back, and most importantly Drew Lock is set to return this week and has been a full participent in practice. Lock gives them the very best chance of winning and his return, much like that of Cam Newton for New England, will be a boost for the whole team.

The Patriots have been really impressive this season, with Cam Newton in particular shining. It looks like a straight up battle between him and Alex Smith for comeback player of the year, and if it was purely based on on-field performance then it would be Cam's to lose. That said, a 10 point spread is very big, especially when the Patriots have given up 1.75 receiving TDs per game, 30th in the NFL.

The Patriots will win this game, they're the better unit and have better coaching, but I'm always interested in any team gaining an additional double-digit haul of points and the Broncos +10 looks like huge value here. They hung within 2 points of the Titans, 5 of the Steelers and beat the Jets, leaving only an 18 point defeat to the Bucs, a far better offensive team than the Pats, as their only double digit loss this season.
