9.5 points is a lot to lay for a 2-3 team, you should still do it
ANALYSIS

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins

  • At 0-5, the Jets' average margin of defeat is 17.2 points per game

The Jets are the worst team in football. The Giants make the debate interesting, but watching the Jets play football is a completely different level of ineptitude from anything else on display across the league.

Sam Darnold, who has talent and can be a successful QB in the NFL if put in position to succeed, is out for the second straight week. That means Joe Flacco, one of the five worst quarterbacks to ever win a Super Bowl, will make another start.

In his first start with the team, Flacco performed pretty much how you’d expect, completing 18-33 passes for 195 yards and a TD as the Jets fell 30-10 to the Cardinals. While it’s certainly fun to pile on Flacco, the Jets’ problems go way beyond the roster.

Adam Gase is an unmitigated disaster as a head coach, and has been terrible everywhere he’s been. The Jets have scored more than one offensive touchdown in a game one time this season, and it came with 54 seconds left in Week 1 against the Bills.

To add to their complete failure as an offense, the Jets released their best offensive player this past week in Le’Veon Bell. It’s not enough that Gase seems to be a terrible head coach, but his players also endup hating him, as Bell did.

As for the Dolphins, they seem to be a much improved team from 2019 to 2020. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been decent this year with 1,344 yards, a 70.6% completion percentage and an 82.6 QBR. Most importantly, he isn’t racking up the interceptions week after week, giving his team a chance to compete.

Running back Myles Gaskin continues to be a pleasant surprise for Miami, and wide receiver Devante Parker looks to be trending toward matching his first-round talent with production.

As far as this week’s matchup is concerned, the Dolphins come in as 9.5-point favorites, which is a massive number for a 2-3 team, but I’m not mentally prepared to put any amount of money on the Jets keeping a game close.

Miami has beaten the 49ers and Jaguars handily this season and were competitive in losses to the Patriots, Bills and Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Jets, at 0-5, have lost one game by fewer than 10 points, and it was a nine-point loss to the 1-3 Broncos.

Lay the points in this one and sit back and watch as the Jets continue to be the worst team in the National Football Team with a 2+ possession loss to Miami.
