NFL expert Sam Farley breaks down Sunday's Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Chargers game
ANALYSIS

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Chargers Predictions

  • The Chargers have won 7 of their last 8 games against the Jaguars

There have been some shining lights in Jacksonville this season. We've seen the emergence of UDFA James Robinson, who has been great this year. Laviska Shenault is another tool who has impressed on offense since being drafted in the second round of this year's draft. CJ Henderson is another who looks like a smart piece of drafting. All of those young talents are for the future though and although there is some positivity that something is brewing in Jacksonville, they are are still one off-season at least from making it a reality.

The Chargers have the one thing that the Jaguars desperately need, a young rookie franchise QB. Gardner Minshew is an incredible meme but is he really going to be the cornerstone of these team for years to come? I'm not sure.

Justin Herbert has been sensational since deputising for Tyrod Taylor after that bizarre injury. He's taken that starting spot and made it his. His arm strength is incredible and his judgement looks improved from where it was in Oregon. Joe Burrow was the heavy favorite for Offensive Rookie Of The Year but for my money, it's Justin Herbert who currently leads the way.

Getting back to this game though, we have a bad Jaguars team. The Jags give up 1.5 TDs per game to running backs and an average of 156 yards, this could be a breakout game for Joshua Kelley. Another man who could excel today, and potentially have a real shot at breaking out to be an WR1 this year is Mike Williams. It's felt like he's failed to reach expectations since arriving at the Chargers but Justin Herbert's arm suits him perfectly and allows him to dominate with his size. I'm expecting big things from him in this game and will study his props when they're released.

The Chargers -7.5 is a big number, and the Chargers have failed to cover the spread in their last 7 games as home favorites, but that can't continue and I don't believe this Jaguars offense will be able to put up the numbers to challenge them this season. The Jags gave up 34 points to the Lions, 30 to the Texans, 33 to the Bengals and 31 to the Dolphins in their past 4 games. They won't be able to contain Justin Herbert and with Justin Jackson taking the Ekeler-role and Kelley being the battering ram, they won't be able to contrain the Chargers run game.
