The Philadelphia Eagles late 4th quarter comeback fell 2-yards short against the Baltimore Ravens. After a questionable defensive coverage call ended their hopes against the Pittsburgh Steelers the prior week, Doug Pederson’s failed run on the Eagles two-point conversation ended their comeback on Sunday.
The New York Giants enter the week coming off their first win of the season. After giving up a late touchdown, instead of kicking an extra point to tie the game, “Riverboat” Ron Rivera went for two to win the game. A decision that resulted in a Giants stop & their first win of the season. A win that seems to be of the liken of bettors who have dropped the line from -6 PHI to -4.5 PHI.
As stated last week, with a Dallas Cowboys loss on Monday Night, the Eagles beating the Ravens was not a necessity for their playoff hopes. This weekend however is a different story. The Eagles playoffs hopes ride on a win or lose against the Giants.
The Eagles broke out the deep ball against the Ravens. Carson Wentz threw the over-the-top throw four times to rookie wide receiver John Hightower. Connecting only once. With the Eagles getting DeSean Jackson back, except some deep ball connections between the two. Wentz has a pass completion of 30+ yards in every game vs the Giants in his career.
Jim Schwartz’s defense gave up 30+ points for the second straight week. It was only the 2nd time in 76 games as the Eagles defensive coordinator that Schwartz gave up 30+ points in back to back weeks. It was also only the 11th time in those 76 games giving up 30+ points. In the game after, the Eagles are 6-3-1 & have given up an average of 21-points per game in those 10 games.
The Giants, who are without star running back Saquon Barkley, still continue to rely heavily on the run game. Free agent signee Devonta Freeman, who is averaging 11+ rushing attempts since taking the starters role in Week3, has rushed the ball 17 & 18 times in the last two weeks.
As the Eagles head coach, Doug Pederson is 7-1 against the Giants. Including winning the last seven against New York & has yet to lose to the Giants in Philadelphia. The Giants have not won in Philadelphia since 2013. Pederson’s Eagles have scored 23+ points in every game vs the Giants. (28-point average) Pederson is also 5-0 in Thursday Night Football games.
While the Eagles injuries continue to add up, the return of key offensive players will offset the loss of more starters on Sunday. Bettors are making this matchup seem closer than it really is. If the Eagles offense can have a day similar as the last two weeks, going against the #1 & #3 ranked defenses in the NFL, the Eagles should roll against the 16th ranked defense in the Giants.
Devonta Freeman Rushing Attempts 11 – OVER
PHI Total Points 23.5 – OVER
Richard Rodgers 25.5 Receiving Yards - OVER
