Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons Predictions

  • Eight of the Falcons last 9 day games against NFC opponents have gone over the total line

Let's get it straight, these two teams are very similiar. The Lions have a marginally better record with two wins to the Falcons one, but they're both suffering teams, who have been very much maligned, but who, on any given Sunday have the offensive talent to tear you to shreds.

I don't trust either of these teams defensively. The Falcons are 31st in the NFL in terms of receiving yards given up to wideouts, with the Lions only in at 27th. That bodes well for both Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford and this game has real potential to be a shootout. Neither team truly rely on the run either. Atlanta's run defense is middle of pack and although the Lions are are bad against the rush, the Falcons only really establish the run to free up that talented receiver corp.

The Falcons come into this game as 2.5 point favorites and although I lean towards them winning and covering that, I simply can't advise it and I wouldn't put my hard earned money on it. The best value here is the over, even with the total at 55. Neither of these teams can play great defense, both have upper tier quarterbacks, which makes it a fairly obvious play. Don't overthink it, just play it.
