NFL Expert Picks: New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs Predictions
New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs
- Jets average 8 points per game on the road
- The Jets have scored two offensive touchdowns in a game one time this season
There is no chance you could convince me to bet real money on the Jets to cover a football game in 2020. 10 points, 20 points, 100 points, I refuse to bet on Adam Gase and his band of misfits.
This week, the Jets take on one of the best teams in the NFL, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. As of Wednesday, the Chiefs are 19.5-point favorites and I have absolutely no issue laying the points here.
I faded the Jets last week and it lost, but I took a couple things away from that Bills game, none of which have made me more confident in the Jets’ ability to cover.
First, Josh Allen is the main reason Buffalo “only” won by 8. He made terrible throw after terrible throw to keep New York in it, and had he looked even decent, this was at least a two-touchdown win for Buffalo. Second, Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass missed two crucial field goals that left us 2.5 points shy of the line. Third, and most importantly, the Jets once again failed to score more than one offensive touchdown.
That’s right. The Jets have scored multiple offensive touchdowns in a game just one time in 2020. That came in their Week 1 loss to the Bills as Josh Adams plunged into the end zone with 54 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, Kansas City is averaging 31.1 points per game this season, good for fifth in the NFL, and trots out the best offensive unit in the league, week after week. There is a real chance this game ends up 56-10.
My biggest concern comes from a worry that the Chiefs open up too big of a lead too early and Andy Reid decides to rest his starters by midway through the third quarter.
Kansas City is 5-2 against the spread this season while New York is a miserable 1-6 ATS. Lay the 19.5 points and watch as Patrick Mahomes marches up and down the field while Sam Darnold struggles to make it past the 50.
