- The Rams are tied for 4th in the NFL with 3.4 sacks per game
- Tua Tagovailoa is making his first NFL start
I really like Tua Tagovailoa as an NFL quarterback prospect. I love his toughness, accuracy and ability to stand in the pocket and make a throw. That, coupled with what he can do once he breaks out of the pocket, leads me to think he’s going to have a massively successful NFL career. I just don’t think the success start this Sunday.
The Rams’ defense is a tough task for your first ever NFL start. LA is tied for fourth in the NFL with 3.4 sacks per game. They allow opposing QBs just 6.5 yards per attempt, good for 2nd in the league, and have only given up 16 plays of 20+ yards and 8 passing TDs.
Miami has a pretty decent offensive line, but you can expect some bumps in the road with Tua under center. There will be timing issues, pre-snap miscommunications and other general problems dies to his inexperience. Eventually, he’ll iron them all out, but those are the kinds of mistakes you can’t afford against a defense as good at Los Angeles’.
The Rams are coming off a huge win against a good Bears defense, and I’m choosing to believe that’s the team we’ll see again Sunday, not the one that lost to a bad 49ers team the week prior.
Jared Goff isn’t an amazing NFL quarterback, but he can do what is being asked of him in LA. He is middle of the pack in yards, touchdowns and QBR, but has only thrown 4 interceptions so far. Limiting the turnovers is key for him, and I expect him to continue to do that this week.
The 24 points the Rams put up on the Bears last week is the most Chicago has given up since Week 3. If that Rams offense shows up, I think you can expect a 7-10 point win. I expect to see flashes of brilliance from Tua, but I also expect him to have some growing pains early on.
I like the Rams -3.5, and I also like the under 46. The Rams have gone under in 71.4% of their games, while the Dolphins have done so in 66.7% of theirs.
