NFL Week 9 Picks: New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team Predictions
New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team
- Washington ranks fourth in the NFL in defensive DVOA
This game will absolutely mirror the state of the NFC East in 2020: Ugly. Both these teams are terrible, have to put up with inconsistent QB play and don’t have much of an identity outside of losing.
Having said that, there is still value on the board to take advantage of, in one spot in particular.
The New York Giants, while managing just a 1-7 record overall, are 5-3-1 against the spread and cover 62.5% of the time.
They’ve struggled to pull out wins, but they have played most teams tight, with the exception of a Week 1 loss to the Steelers and a blowout loss to San Francisco.
Just three days ago, we watched as the Giants played the Buccaneers down to the wire. That’s a good Tampa Bay team that should have blown out the Giants, but New York was able to hang around.
When Daniel Jones makes an effort to take care of the ball and cut down on the turnovers, he can be a solid NFL quarterback and lead the Giants successfully down the road.
Meanwhile, Washington is coming off a bye. Last time we saw them, they were dominating a very bad Cowboys team, which is a win we can’t put much stock in.
These two teams met in Week 6, with New York coming away with a 20-19 win. I expect a similar result in this meeting, with the Giants winning by a small margin, but that’s not where I’ll be betting this one.
My favorite bet in this matchup is the under on the 41.5-point total. It’s tied for the lowest total on the board with the Cowboys-Steelers game, but it’s not scaring me from taking it.
Washington, as bad as they’ve been, is fourth in the entire NFL in defensive DVOA. The Giants are a serviceable 18th in the league in the same stat, but, luckily for them, Washington ranks 31st in the NFL in offensive DVOA.
This game will be an absolute struggle to get points on the board, and I’m riding with the under.
