- The New Orleans Saints rank in the top five against the run in 2020
- The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a multitude of injuries across their offense and defense
When the schedule for the 2020 NFL season was released, this would have been one of the games that fans across the country had circled as a potential NFC Championship preview game. However, circumstances have meant that it may very well not be the case.
The 49ers are ravaged with injuries on both sides of the ball, with Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, and Nick Bosa all set to miss the game. The problem for the 49ers in this matchup is that their strength comes ion the run game, which also happens to be the strength of the Saints offense. It is extremely hard to see how the 49ers are going to be able to move the ball with consistency in this game.
As the Saints offense, they can attack you in a multitude of ways. If they aren’t running it straight at you with Latavius Murray and Alvin Kamara, then they are attacking you through the air with Michael Thomas, Jared Cook, and Emmanuel Sanders. There are weapons all over this field and the 49ers depleted defense does not have the strength upfront or on the back end to keep this Saints offense quiet enough.
My biggest concern here is that this is a let down spot for the Saints after their big win on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the 49ers, at 4-5, are in what can be described as a kitchen sink game, which when combined with coming off a 10-day break can make for a dangerous combination.
The Saints have gone over 30 points in four of their eight games this season, including against the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the 49ers have allowed each of their last two opponents to score over 30 points.
