NFL Week 10 Picks: Washington Football Team vs. Detroit Lions Predictions
Washington Football Team vs. Detroit Lions Predictions
- 9 of the Lions last 10 games at Ford Field have gone over the total points line
This is one of the harder games to preview this week, especially with the status of Kenny Golladay being up in the air, although he likely looks like he'll miss the game.
The stats tell us that 90% of the Lions last 10 home games have gone over the total points line but despite being a modest 46.5 points, I'm not totally sure where those points come from. The Football Team haven't been high scorers this year. They put 27 points on an incredibly injury hit Eagles team, and 25 on the abject Cowboys, but they've struggled to score against even remotely capable defenses.
The Lions defense isn't elite but they can hold Washington at bay here. Can they capitalise though? If they do indeed miss Golladay then they're not equipped to put up massive numbers. They've averaged under 22 points scored the past 3 weeks and I do think that this Washington defense is slightly underrated, and will improve further down the stretch this year.
So with that in mind, I'm not backing the over here, so it comes down to picking a side of the spread. When I look at these teams I find myself having more confidence in Matt Stafford's ability to find free receivers than I do Alex Smith, who let's not forget, is still coming back from that hideous life-threatening injury. Let's take the Lions here but keep the stake modest.
Save the dollars for when player props come out later this week, TJ Hockenson will likely again be one of Detroit's leading receiving threats and Washington have been poor against tightends. They've given up an average of 58 yards, 25th in the NFL, to tightends and Hockenson is going to be a major threat in this game.
