Brian Good breaks down the Saints vs. Eagles game
ANALYSIS

New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles Predictions

  • The Eagles are 4-8 against the spread this year

The spread could be 20 here and I couldn’t be convinced to take the Eagles. I have, unfortunately, watched every single snap of their season. I wish I could report that they’re a better team than their record suggests, that it’s been bad luck pulling down an otherwise talented team, but it’s not.

As far as I’m concerned, the Eagles are the worst team in the NFL right now. If they played the Jets, it would be a toss up. Carson Wentz, who isn’t starting this week, has been bad, but he’s only part of the problem.

Doug Pederson continues to look lost as a play caller and as a head coach preparing his team and making personnel decisions. Miles Sanders has been awesome this season, but he doesn’t see enough touches to have any impact on the final outcome.

Travis Fulgham led the NFL in receiving for a four-week span, then aging, overpaid receiver Alshon Jeffery comes back from injury and they decide to cut Fulgham’s snaps in half. Jalen Reagor, the receiver they spent a first-round pick on this past offseason, has 20 catches.

Howie Roseman has failed this organization, falling on his face year after year in the draft and free agency. Doug Pederson has failed this team, deciding he’s going to play certain players regardless of results, and refusing to call plays that put his franchise quarterback in a position to succeed.

As a result, here we are with Wentz shouldering all the blame and losing his starting spot. Carson has been bad, he deserved to lose his job as the starter, but when is Pederson going to lose his job as a result of what we’re seeing on the field? When is Roseman going to be held accountable for JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Andre Dillard, Donnell Pumphrey, Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones, Derek Barnett and the countless other terrible moves he’s made?

This rant is just leading to my point that I wouldn’t bet on the Eagles in any situation. The Saints, no matter who is at QB, are one of the best teams in the NFL. Taysom Hill has looked awesome and, more importantly, their defense is for real.

Jalen Hurts will make his first ever NFL start on Sunday against one of the best defesnes in the NFL. It will be ugly, he will struggle and the Eagles will lose by 17 points. Bet the house on the team with a competent coach and good defense, not the one that has no idea what they’re doing at any level
